Every child deserves the chance to dream without limits, discover their potential, and build a future filled with opportunities. Yet, many young people in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) lack access to quality education, digital resources, and the guidance needed to unlock their full potential. At Proximity Foundation, we believe talent is universal, but access to opportunities is not. By connecting young minds with the right tools, future-ready skills, and mentors who genuinely care, we aim to bridge this gap and empower them with the confidence, knowledge, and support they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our goal is to create an impact that extends far beyond technology.
Every great journey begins with a single step, and ours began quietly, in a room in Hyderabad, with three old computers shared between forty children. In 2025, seven teenage girls decided to give something new a try. None of them had ever touched a keyboard before. Over the next four months, they showed up anyway, a little unsure at first, but curious enough to keep going. Slowly, that curiosity turned into confidence. All seven completed the course, learning the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL along the way. Three of them are now continuing on to learn AI and web development. What started as a small experiment became proof of something we'd always believed: give a young person the right support, and there's no telling how far they'll go.
That experience is what brought us to Mumbai - the City of Dreams and the financial capital of India. A city known for its resilience, diversity, and relentless spirit, Mumbai felt like the natural next home for this work. With a strong network of Child Care Institutions, dedicated volunteers, and a thriving technology ecosystem, the city offers everything we need to help this story continue.
Across our cohorts, learning is already transforming into confidence, curiosity, and growth. Every session is an opportunity for students to explore new ideas, build practical digital skills, collaborate with mentors, and challenge themselves beyond the classroom. As they learn together, they are not only preparing for future careers but also developing the mindset to solve problems, embrace new opportunities, and shape their own futures. Each cohort strengthens our belief that when young people are given the right support, they can achieve far more than they ever imagined.
Learning with us is about much more than sitting through lessons or writing code. It is about asking questions, trying new ideas, making mistakes, and growing with every session. Students work on real projects, explore the world of technology, and learn alongside mentors who encourage them to think differently and believe in their own potential. Along the way, they build confidence, strengthen their communication and teamwork skills, and discover that learning can be exciting, creative, and full of possibilities.
When young people receive the right support at the right time, it can do so much more than change their future; it can change how they see themselves. That's the future we want to create.
We want all our students to have the freedom to explore, the confidence to take chances, and the belief that their dreams are worth pursuing. Regardless of whether they choose a career in tech or take a different route entirely, we hope they leave with the skills, the mindset, and the self-belief to build a life they can be proud of.
Every journey starts with a single step, but no meaningful journey is walked alone. What began with an idea is now growing through the enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our mentors, and the support of everyone who believes in this mission. There is still a long road ahead, with many more classrooms to reach and many more stories waiting to be written. If these first steps have taught us anything, it is that even the smallest opportunity can spark a future full of possibilities.
